heaðu-sceared
adj. In Beo. Th. 5650; B. 2829; according to Thorpe the reading of the MS. is scearede, other editors read scearde. In the former case may not the word be connected with scear [q. v. share in ploughshare] used here of the blade of a sword, heaðo-scear a war-share, blade? and hearde heaðo-scearede = with hard and deadly blades. If scearde is taken, the Icel. skarð may be compared, and the word = notched, hacked in battle.
